On Friday March 8, 2024 Community Engagement teams from around the City and County gathered to provide safety education to the students and faculty at Derfelt Elementary School.

The RTC of Southern Nevada set up a cross walk with working signal lights to teach crossing the street as a pedestrian or bicyclist, (dismount bike then walk across). CCSD Safe Routes to school set up a fun bicycle safety obstacle course.

Erin Breen from UNLV’s Transportation Research Center was able to get 30 new bike helmets from Nevada’s Department of Transportation (NDOT). Principal Chua at Derfelt will distribute the helmets to students after the Safety Fair.

McGruff the Crime Dog and volunteers from LVMPD along with our favorite COP officer from Summerlin Area Command were available to talk with students, (below).

CCSD Officer Thomas and his K-9 partner, King, are always a big hit with kids and adults. King had been up all night chasing bad guys so his time with students was a bit limited. (below)

Wonderwoman and Spiderman visited with the students and BCNA volunteers!

The City of Las Vegas Marshall’s Office sent three Marshall’s. Principal Chua and City Councilwoman Seaman pose along with BCNA President Dina and Officers.

A huge honor was presented to the Buffalo Coalition Neighborhood Association from City Councilwoman Seaman recognizing our contributions to the community.

A beautiful Proclamation under glass on a gorgeous wood plaque was given to BCNA President Dina. We are grateful for the confidence and will continue to celebrate the wonderful neighborhood and community we live.
